Everything You Need to Know about Post-Grunge. After the popularity of grunge in the early 1990s that brought from Seattle bands such as Pearl Jam and Nirvana, post-grunge emerged as the response of its mother-genre in the mid-1990s. While grunge came from darker sounds like metal and punk, post-grunge morphed lyrical themes and heavy guitars. The songs that have produced by post-grunge bands tend to be song that are mid-tempo which combine with power chord of hard rock numbers and ballads spirit.
Post-Grunge Era Begins (Mid 1990s)
As the popularity of four Seattle grunge super bands such as Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana, a couple of record labels began to signing bands that sounded and styled like these super groups. There are three most famous bands that mimicked like them such as Collective Soul, Candlebox and Bush.

Evolution of Post-Grunge (Late 1990s, Early 2000s)
At the end of ‘90s post-grunge bands started to lose their track. The domination was changed into the rap-rock and alternative metal genre. But post-grunge evolved and took their popularity back to the map of music.

Creed with their vocalist Scott Stapp brings the memory back of Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam singer. With more mid-tempo songs, band from Florida became one of the new faces of post-grunge. After that, Nickelback came to the surface who took back the spirit of grunge with the heavy guitar riffs. These two bands successfully gained more popularity from larger audiences.
The Era of Creed and Nickelback (2000s)
After the popularity of Creed and Nickelback, many post-grunge bands came to the scene at the opening of 21st century. One of the most captivated bands at that time is 3 Doors Down who was made their hits “Loser” and “Kryptonite” into the top chart for a couple of weeks in 2000. Puddle of Mudd came the following year with many hit singles produce by this band.

At this stage, post-grunge has accepted by many people and can be heard on the mainstream radio. They compete with a couple of rap-rock and alt-metal bands. But there are still diehard fans or original grunge bands that rejected those new bands as they lose the main identity of the roots. Especially for Nickelback and Creed who came to the scene as more romantic and not so macho band unlike the pioneers before them. Post-grunge is the different style of music, but a couple of super bands like Soundgarden and Nirvana were likened because they brought the spirit of rebel and avoided the mainstream.
Post-Grunge Nowadays
At the 2010s, there are a couple of emerging bands that made success by bringing the spirit of post-grunge. Shinedown, the quintet from Florida. Captivated mainstream because the success of their best album entitled “The Sound of Madness” in 2008. After that the band released two more albums “Amaryllis” in 2012 and “Threat to Survival” in 2015. Besides Shinedown, there is Seether. A band from South Africa that took off in 2007 as their album. “Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces” made their success. After that they released two more hit albums “Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray” in 2011 and “Isolate and Medicate” in 2014.
